If you add the Outlander season 3 Collector's Edition Blu-Ray to your collection - it's available for pre-order now - you'll get a few extra treats, including this powerful screen test between Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe.

It's the famous "You're tearing my guts out, Claire," scene from season 1. "This was a very important step before we cast Caitriona, because we had obviously already cast Sam," explains Outlander showrunner Ronald D. Moore, "so we were looking for a chemistry between the two characters. We really felt that Cait was probably going to be the one but this was the final moment, this was when she literally sealed the deal and got the show. As you see, they sort of already got the shorthand of their characters and there is definitely on-screen chemistry between the two."

As part of the casting process, the camera was left running to see what Heughan and Balfe's interactions would be like when the actors were more relaxed. As Moore describes, you can definitely see the "genuine affection and good humor" they had from the beginning, in this case playing out in some sweet conversation between the two, who are now good friends. "I think when you grabbed my hand, I punched you in the face," jokes Balfe. Watch the whole thing above.
