Fans are getting closer and closer to the premiere of Outlander season 6. But before snagging a seat on the couch, folks are hearing about the Starz drama's recent move to a new home.

Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on the hit show, was among the first to announce the new way Outlander fans in the U.K. can tune into the upcoming season. The 41-year-old actor shared that when the sixth installment of the series debuts in early 2022, it will be exclusively streamed on Starzplay.

“I am excited to announce that STARZPLAY is not only the home of @meninkiltsstarz (??????????????????)….but will also be the new home for that other show set in Scotland: @outlander_starz !!!” he captioned an Instagram video. “Stay tuned to @Starzplayuk for all of the latest news! Welcome home Sassenach!”

But after reading Sam’s post and coming to terms with what this really means, many fans didn’t want to join in on the celebration. According to Variety, Starz’s streaming service Starzplay landed the exclusive rights to Outlander in the U.K. after outbidding competitors. Amazon Prime Video previously held these rights since 2015. Now, viewers who have Amazon's streaming service will be able to continue watching Outlander, but only after signing up and paying for a Starzplay add-on subscription.

“Well not good really… I’m not gonna for yet another TV service. I only joined prime so I could watch the latest season … Having waited so long for season 6 I will now have to wait for the dvd to come out! NOT HAPPY AT ALL!” one person wrote in the comments section. “Absolutely ridiculous – another subscription service required to watch… Very disappointing. ??,” another added. “This is not really fair.. we already pay a TV license.. sky.. prime.. and now we’re expected to pay starz.. I don’t think so.. I should imagine the show will lose a lot of fans now.. we can’t all afford to keep paying,” a different fan said.

Outlander’s complete five seasons are also ready to watch on Starzplay. After earning the rights to the show, the network revealed that the move was made to allow more countries access to the historical drama.

“Because we have such a great experience with Outlander domestically, the way we look at this is bringing Outlander home to Starz,” said Superna Kalle, Starz’s president of international networks. “When I first joined, I was sad to see we didn’t have Outlander in most countries, so the way we’ve been able to license it in the U.K., the home of Outlander in terms of where it’s set, is super exciting.”

To be clear, this news doesn't seem to drastically affect U.S. viewers, who can watch Outlander on Netflix, Amazon Prime (with a Starz add-on), or via a subscription to Hulu, Sling TV, Philo and Youtube TV. Episodes are also available to purchase on Google Play, Vudu, Youtube, and Apple TV.
