Outlander Sneak Peek: Watch Claire and Marsali Share a Sweet Moment
Outlander's Claire and Marsali have always had a somewhat unusual relationship. Claire is effectively Marsali's mother-in-law, as she serves as an adoptive parent to Fergus, but Jamie was also married to Marsali's mother before Claire returned back through the stones, so that has to create some tension.
But the two women have grown much closer since settling on Fraser's Ridge, especially over the course of season five, as Marsali has been serving as Claire's apprentice, helping to grow mold for penicillin, assisting during surgeries, and keeping track of the various medicinal herbs and remedies.
Claire now serves as a mentor to Marsali, and a new exclusive clip from episode 509 offers insight into their relationship as Marsali prepares to become a mother for the third time.
In the footage above from "Monsters and Heroes," Claire checks Marsali's pregnant belly in the surgery room. She listens for the fetus's heartbeat, and shares that "the baby is in a perfect position."
"Any day now!" Claire says, hinting that the arrival of Marsali and Fergus's third child is imminent. "Though, after two, you could probably deliver this baby all by yourself," she jokes.
But it's the line after the medical exam that illustrates how far Claire and Marsali's friendship has come.
"It does make me feel better that you'll be here," Marsali says. "Not so much as my physician, but to share it with me, as my ma."
Outlander airs Sunday nights on Starz.
