If You Own These Old Toys, You Could Make Some Serious $$$
Everything old is in again, and that means your vintage toys may be worth money. Whether you have your own toys stashed away in a storage unit or you're housing your children's toys, there are many old toys worth money. Of course, it stands to reason that toys from the '60s, '70s, and '80s can turn a profit, since many of them haven't been sold in decades. But, just as '90s fashion is coming back, so, too, are '90s and early '00s toys in the resale market.
Resale site eBay is known for its wide array of collectibles for sale, and toys make up a large part of what's offered in that marketplace. So we looked at eBay price trends for new and used toys that sold at auction. Based on that data, these old toys could sell for a lot of money if you still have them hanging around your home.
Of course, the older the toy and the better condition it's in (new and with its original packaging seems to be preferred), the higher it could sell for. But even if your toy is slightly used, there may still be a market for it. After all, one person's trash is another person's treasure.
Hot Wheels
Hot Wheels — specifically the Redline cars made in the '60s and '70s that have a red line on their wheels — are worth a ton. A whole collection can run upwards of $8,000 on eBay. Even a single car can be worth upwards of $6,000, depending on the type and condition. But even cars produced more recently can be worth something. The Hot Wheels JC Penney Treasure Hunt sets can be sold for $300 and some individual cars from the '80s and '90s can earn you over $100.
Nintendo GameCube Consoles
The indigo-colored machines introduced in 2001 can go for up to $650 if they’re bundled with working controllers and games.
Super Soakers
These '90s water toys can sell for up to $400 if they’re from the original Larami brand, but the more modern Hasbo ones can still fetch over $50.
Star Wars Figures
The action figures from the '70s and '80s can sell for as much as $4,000.
Teddy Ruxpin
The talking bear toy can sell for up to $700 if it's in original from 1985.
Playmobil Sets
These are still manufactured today, but vintage sets from the '80s can go for as much as $2,000. Sets from the '90s can go for $50 to $100.
Beanie Babies
Some Beanie Babies are worth money — mostly the retired ones and the bears. Those with mint condition tags can go for thousands of dollars. A favorite is the purple Princess Diana bear, which can be sold for up to $9,000. However, even less popular retired Beanie Babies can sell for over $100.
Cabbage Patch Dolls
Dolls made prior to 1990 can sell for up to $700. Those made after 1990 sell for closer to $100.
Easy Bake Ovens
Whether your model is from the '60s or the '90s, these can sell for around $100.
G.I. Joe
If your action figures are from the '60s, they can go for over $2,000, and the vehicles and accessories can be worth as much too.
Barbie Dolls
Some dolls sell for more than others. A popular one found on eBay is the Marie Antoinette doll from 2003. It can go for over $700.
Care Bears
These plush toys from the '80s to the early 2000s can be sold for $200 to 400.
Chatty Cathy Dolls
These can be sold for upwards of $300, depending on the model and condition.
Harry Potter Lego Sets
If you have several sets, you can bundle them for over $1,000. The castle set alone can fetch $500.
Furby
The limited edition Kids Cuisine Furby go for around $500, but regular Furbies can still fetch $100 to $300, depending on the model and condition.
American Girl Dolls
The retired dolls like Molly, Kirsten, and Samantha can earn a lot of money on eBay. A Molly doll with outfits can go for over $2,000, while just the doll can go for $500. Kirsten can be sold for $1,300 with her accessories, or $800 for the doll alone. An original Samantha (she's been re-released with a new outfit) can go for $1,250. Even just bundles of various American Girl clothes and accessories can go for around $900.
Tickle Me Elmo
Remember when these were the must-have toy for Christmas? They're still pretty popular today and can go for over $50.
Tamagotchi
These electronic pets are being retailed again, but the original '90s versions can go for $300 to $500 if they’re new and in the box.
Bratz Dolls
The most popular one seems to be Felicia, who can be found for around $200.
Rockem Sockem Robots
These vintage action toys can go for $50 to $150, especially if they're still in the box.
Baby Alive
The battery-operated doll who "eats" and "poops" can fetch upwards of $300 on eBay.
Webkinz
These plush animals come with codes to let kids play with the virtual versions online. But even without code tags, these stuffed animals can go for any amount between $150 and $400. Popular favorites include the Siberian husky, German shepherd, timber wolf, and Australian shepherd — but other ones can still be worth around $50.
So, if you're planning a Marie Kondo of your basement, attic, or garage, pay attention to the toys you have stored there. You never know what may be worth some extra cash.
