Pace ice cream shop known for its signature 'freak shakes' has closed its doors
TASTEBUDS: Sweet Treats and Ice Cream, located at 4570 Watkins St., is saying goodbye to Pace after seven years serving up their specialty “freak shakes.”
The shop owners took to Facebook to break the news to customers.
“It is with sadness that we must announce we will be closing the doors to TASTEbuds effective after tonight. It has been an incredible 7.5 years, with many ups and downs. We have met some amazing people and have loved serving this community,” TASTEbuds wrote on June 16. “Closing is due to a variety of factors with staffing difficulties, cost increases, and family time demands. Unfortunately a decision we couldn't put off any longer. Today is our final day and we will be closing tonight. Thank you so much for your support and we will see you around.”
While the shop offered a whopping 32 flavors of premium, hand-dipped ice creams, milkshakes and specialty sundaes – their “freak shakes” were what they became famous for.
The freak shakes came served in a signature TASTEbuds mason jar, then were lined with frostings, toppings and full-sized desserts that stuck out from the top. At TASTEbuds, it was normal for your milkshake to come topped with an entire slice of cheesecake, candy bar or miniature pie.
As self-proclaimed ice cream lovers themselves, the Hobbs family set out to “bring the best ice cream experience to you and your family,” per the TASTEbuds website.
