Pamela Anderson Wears Nothing But Straw for New Ad

Pamela Anderson is a needle in a haystack for the new SS17 campaign for Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood. The ads show models in a host of unusual materials, but Anderson’s outfit takes the proverbial cake: She’s wearing practically an entire bale of hay. The look was actually inspired by one of Westwood’s recent runway shows.

When you’ve got it, you’ve got it, though, and Anderson still has it at age 49. She wears the straw draped around her body like a large shawl, a sultry expression on her face, one leg exposed. She may not be rocking a red one-piece swimsuit, but the smoldering ad is just as hot as any scene from Baywatch.

The ad also shows that the 49-year-old’s trademark blonde locks have grown back, after a chic pixie cut she famously got in 2013 before running a 26.2-mile marathon. (She told Ellen DeGeneres at the time, “I just thought my hair had a life, and I wanted to kind of put that behind me and start fresh,” she said. “I thought it would be good for the marathon, and it was.”)

Even the location was hot. The Mediterranean-inspired campaign was shot in Hydra, Greece, where photographer Juergen Teller owns a house. “It seemed perfect for it. We liked the adventure of it,” Teller told Dazed. “Vivienne, Andreas and Pamela are all just great people to work with. All three of them bring so much to the shoot. I love working with them. There is a trust between us and we explore and work quite freely.”

Straw may have been the perfect accessory for Anderson, as her wild side emerged during the shoot. She told Dazed of working with the photographer, “I love the apocalyptic feel when we shoot. A warrior comes over me and it feels like life and death. How will we survive the climate and overpopulation? We may all become cannibals — or eat rocks.”

The conceptual nature of the shoot clearly resonated with Anderson, as she also told the publication, “I have learned from Vivienne that each day is an opportunity. That I cannot be silent. I must be specific and work very hard every day to engage in the world. As a reader and art lover — and activist.”

The longtime PETA supporter is also a vegan, with her own line of footwear. “Compassion is sexy,” she says on her site.

Anderson has modeled for Westwood before, in “three separate ads for the house, along with last year’s Save the Arctic Campaign,” according to Dazed. That includes shoots for Westwood’s SS 2009 and 2010 campaigns, also shot by Teller.

It seems Anderson is the perfect muse for Westwood and Teller’s aesthetic. In an interview for the publication’s 25th anniversary, she revealed that she revels in experimental looks. She said, “My favorite times are when I completely lose the way I look and I’m unrecognizable even in the mirror.”
