Last year, Pantone decided on an unconventional shade for its Color of the Year, giving us Viva Magenta, a rich hue that screamed sophistication. This year, the color tastemaker chose another direction — one of nurturing, empathy, and compassion. Keeping those qualities in mind, Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year is… Peach Fuzz!

Even the name evokes feelings of warmth, just as Pantone envisioned. Peach Fuzz, marked in the Pantone catalog as 13-1023, is all about tenderness, collaboration, and creating community — both with other people and within ourselves. When asked to describe it, Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, said, “A cozy peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, Peach Fuzz brings belonging, inspires recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from whether spending time with others or taking the time to enjoy a moment by ourselves.” She emphasized how the color inspired a sense of tactility and being cocooned, while also remaining light and airy.

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, added, “The color is one whose warm and welcoming embrace conveys a message of compassion and whose cozy sensibility brings people together and enriches the soul.”

This color also marks the 25th year of Pantone Color of the Year. The Pantone Color Institute started the program in 1999 with Cerulean Blue, and it has become an iconic part of world culture since, with millions of people eagerly looking forward to the announcement of the year’s color.

Pantone has plenty of ideas for where this color can fit into home design. Some uses are obvious, like fluffy duvets and shag rugs — and if you’re interested in those, Ruggable just dropped a collection incorporating the new Color of the Year. Overall, it just screams poetry and romance. However, Eiseman also pointed out that this color could fit into more contemporary styles as well, or even marry different periods together if that’s the look you’re going for.

You don’t have to restrict it to soft surfaces, either — both Eiseman and Pressman recommended it as the perfect wall color for almost any room in the house. This color can be inviting when it comes to entryways and living rooms, nourishing when it comes to kitchens, and serve as the perfect relaxing gender-neutral tone for bedrooms and nurseries — the sky’s the limit! Pressman even speculated that we could see this flattering shade in lightbulbs eventually. Either way, Peach Fuzz is definitely going to be the go-to in interior design in the upcoming year.
