Pantone's Color of the Year 2020 Is the Truest Blue
The announcement of Pantone's color of the year has become a sort of Oscar nomination of design. We look forward to it throughout the final months of any year, wondering what the color gurus will declare and how it will influence rooms and homes yet to be designed. Their choice often says something about the zeitgeist, about how we're all feeling, and suggests what is ahead of us. So what can we look forward to in the new decade? Classic Blue, apparently.
Pantone's 19-4052 is the truest of blues. It's not bright cerulean or dark indigo, not pale sky blue or navy. The closest description might be royal blue, but it's a little calmer than that, not as bold.
"We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a statement.
Pantone waxed on in their press release about the color, saying "Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser-like clarity, Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience." A tranquil color that also offers resilience? Hear, hear!
It's the color of a late afternoon autumn sky, of graduation gowns in June, of your favorite sports team's jerseys. It's worn-in blue jeans, and what could be more classic than that? We're so excited to see how designers use Classic Blue in the months and years to come.
