Parents’ hilarious ‘empty nesters’ photo shoot goes viral
A set of parents in Mississippi are preparing to be empty nesters, and are celebrating the milestone with a hilarious photo shoot.
Amy and Randy English are the stars of the now viral photos taken by their youngest daughter, Haley Jones, who will become their last child to move out on Saturday, June 1. Jones tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she’s making the 30-minute move from Pontotoc to Oxford, Miss., where she works as a full-time nanny. But she and her parents decided to do a photo shoot since the 22-year-old just started her own photography business on the side.
“We decided to do this photo shoot when I signed my lease in March,” Jones explains. “I wanted to take a picture of my mom and dad outside of my apartment building’s office and then she suggested we wait and do them closer to time, and do an empty nester photo shoot. We had never seen one so we just threw it together!”
Jones had her parents pose outside of their home, alongside their two dogs, Marley and Buck, who are identified as the couple’s “favorite kids” in one of the amusing signs pictured. Another plays on popular pregnancy announcements, reading: “Expecting 0 kids June 2019,” alongside the Amy and Randy’s smiling faces.
“Most parents are a little sad when they hit the ‘empty nest’ phase of life,” Jones wrote in her Facebook post. “However, my parents seem thrilled.”
Within one day of posting on Tuesday afternoon, the photos have been well received by the thousands of people who have seen them. Many reacting to the pictures have expressed that they wish they had thought of the idea first.
“Best photos! I can relate! My girls left the house several years ago, I thought I would be upset — NOPE! We talk often and meet for lunch on weekends but hubby & I love our freedom now!!!” one person commented.
Another wrote, “Hands down most adorable photo session ever!”
Now, with the viral attention that the photos have received, Jones is equally as excited about her photography business getting recognition as her parents are about her moving out.
“When I woke up this morning, I had thousands and thousands of shares, comments, and new page likes which means the world to me!” Jones shares. “My business is getting out there, which means I will be doing more of what I love! It’s truly surreal and I am very grateful!”
