‘Party with a purpose’: 5th BASH for Mercy Flight returning to RiverWorks
BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) — Western New Yorkers will have the chance to ‘Party with a Purpose’ as the fifth BASH for Mercy Flight returns to RiverWorks this weekend.
“Western New York is such an awesome community to operate a non-profit in because the people are just so giving and so generous here,” said Scott Wooton, Executive Vice President of Mercy Flight. “What we’re able to do is use those funds towards helping offset the cost of our service for folks who may be uninsured or maybe underinsured.”
The BASH includes music by DJ Milk, an auction, food, drinks, music by Nerds Gone Wild, and a fireworks display by Skylighters Fireworks.
“I can’t think of a better cause, there’s so many people that, that service has touched us personally and directly, god forbid anything happen to any of us, and to have that service is very important to the community and to give back and be apart of it, it’s an honor, it’s a privilege.” said Bill Casale, CEO of RiverWorks.
Mercy Flight was founded in 1981 by Doug Baker and throughout the 43 years of air service, they’ve helped transport nearly 32,000 patients. They say throughout the 15 years of their ground ambulance service, they’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people.
“Most times when our workers, our EMS professionals transport a patient they drop them off at their destination at a facility and often times that the last time they’ll know, or hear, or see that patient,” said Wooton. “Whenever we get a chance to get together with members of the community, we often get to hear those great stories of, “You guys saved my life, you guys saved my moms life.”
The BASH for Mercy Flight takes place Saturday, Sept. 28, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. General Admission tickets are $15, and VIP tickets are $45. For more information visit their website here.
