Wheel of Fortune had its debut all the way back in 1975 — and 46 years later, it's still a beloved show. While the game show is entertaining, part of its success can be attributed to cohosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White, who both joined the show in the early 1980s.

Although Pat and Vanna, who also cohost Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, both renewed their contracts with the game show through the 2023-2024 TV seasons, they revealed that it’s only a matter of time before they go off the air.

“We’re certainly closer to the end than the beginning,” Pat said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I’d like to leave before people tune in and look at me and say, ‘Oh, what happened to him?’”

In the meantime, Pat is doing everything he can to ensure that doesn’t happen. After all, the host is 75 years old but you’d never guess it. “I wouldn’t bet on it seeing us in 10 years,” Pat continued, to which Vanna agreed.

And what is Pat’s ultimate goal before his chapter of Wheel of Fortune comes to a close? To have Meryl Streep on as a guest. “I just want to have Meryl Streep standing there and say ‘Come on big money!’” he joked. “That’s my dream. Meryl, if you’re watching, we can’t give you an Oscar, but please.”

Dreams aside, Pat has recently expanded his role on the longtime show. Earlier this year, in September, the Wheel of Fortune star added consulting producer to his responsibilities as part of his renewal deal for season 39. What's more, his daughter, Maggie Sajak, officially joined the show as social correspondent to help fans keep up on social media.

Who knows, Maggie might just step in to Pat's shoes one day in the future.
