Paulina Porizkova says she is dating again: ‘Didn’t even know that I could ever trust anyone again’
Paulina Porizkova is opening herself up to love. As a recent guest on the HollywoodLife Podcast, the model explained that she's been testing the waters with dating someone new.
While discussing the book Us by Terrence Real, the 57-year-old told the podcasters, “I was reading it when I was single, and I thought, ‘The next man I meet where I feel like the potential for a relationship is going to go somewhere, I’m going to make them read this book before we get anywhere for real. And so I can say, I’ve just handed that book up to somebody.”
Although the relationship is still what the model calls “in the early days,” she told the show that her mystery man did read the book and that it prompted “the most amazing conversations about ourselves and where we are going and what we want."
The model also told the podcast that she, “didn’t even know that I could ever trust anyone again to want to be in a relationship.”
Porizkova mentioned that she’s still struggling with her “trust issues" and said, “my work is cut out for me."
The former America’s Next Top Model judge, who was most recently linked to writer Aaron Sorkin, was previously married to The Cars frontman Ric Ocasek. The couple, who share two sons, was estranged when he died in their shared home in September 2019.
Porizkova has spoken at length about her complicated relationship with Ocasek, who she said could be "controlling" in a 2021 interview on The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet.
“He didn't want me to do anything,” Porizkova told de Cadenet of their marriage. “He didn't want me to go anywhere. He wanted me to be within his circle at all times. I was his soul emotional provider for everything, and I confused that with love.”
She called Ocasek removing her from the will a "betrayal" of her trust and love.
“I have no way of knowing what possessed him to do this," she said at the time.
In 2021, the model told Yahoo that she was rediscovering dating and sex in her 50s.
"I was just 19 when Ric and I became a couple; I'm now 56, having celebrated my birthday just last week," she said. "And now being out there dating again, what I'm realizing is that I'm not very good at it. I keep being this weird teenager when it comes to dating because the last time I dated, I was a teenager. I haven't adjusted to being a mature woman yet, so I'm a little silly probably."
In 2022, Porizkova shared that she still hadn't totally acclimated to the single life. She posted a photo of herself lying on one side of a bed. She captioned the photo, "I still sleep only on one side of the bed. After almost an entire lifetime of sharing my space with someone else, I'm still keeping it open — for someone else."
"I think there is more strength in sharing," she continued. "In acknowledging and embracing our vulnerabilities and needs. Even the lonesome cowboy riding off into the sunset isn’t wholly alone. He's on his horse."
