How the Peace Prayer of Saint Francis Helps Ree Drummond in Her Everyday Life
Yes, Ree Drummond is as sweet as her extra fudgy brownies, but the Food Network star has to deal with her fair share of online bullies. Rather than respond to these so-called trolls with sass or defending herself, Drummond embraces the peace prayer of Saint Francis.
Here's The Pioneer Woman's theory, as shared by The Cheat Sheet from the 2013 BlogHer conference where she gave a speech to fellow bloggers: "My approach, and I don’t like to give this as advice, but my approach is a little bit based on the prayer of St. Francis, which is make me an instrument of your peace," the chef and media personality said. "I don’t want to put it back out there. So, for me, it has always stopped on my doorstep. It would be a disproportionate response considering the good I have experienced and the kindness, for me to turn my eyes to the bad. That’s been my approach so far."
The simple prayer, which begins, "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope," reminds us that from the darkest emotions we can infuse the most uplifting ones. When somebody mistreats you, go out of your way to be kind.
