Peach Festival returns this weekend to Marysville

Set to start on Friday, the 24th annual Marysville Peach Festival will return this weekend.

The festival, which will take place in downtown Marysville, will run from 4-10 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. Organizers said there will be a wide variety of “peachy” food, two stages of musical entertainment and more than 120 exhibitors at the free event.

While the main activities will occur on Friday and Saturday, the festival will actually kick off from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday night with the Peach Pub Crawl, hosted by the Marysville Youth Shooting Sports program, in the downtown area.

On Friday night, a new element of the Peach Festival will start: the Peach Royalty competition hosted through a partnership with the Heartshine Foundation. The competition will be at the 3rd and D streets stage from 4-6 p.m. Categories for the competition include Pre-Teen (ages 8-11), Jr. Teen (ages 12-15), Teen (ages 16-18) and Miss (ages 19-29). To register, visit the Marysville Peach Festival Facebook page.

Returning again this year will be the Peach Festival Tasty Treat Competition hosted by Results Radio.

“If you think you’ve got the best peach pie recipe or your peach cobbler has the best crumble, enter them into the Tasty Treat Competition on Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. at 604 D Street, Marysville,” organizers said. “There are both savory and sweet categories and cash prize winners will be announced on Friday evening.”

On Saturday morning, the annual Peach Festival 5K/10K Run/Walk will be hosted again by the Training Zone. Those interested in registering should contact the Training Zone at 530-742-7473.

Also on Saturday morning, Marysville High School FFA will host its Peaches & Pancake Breakfast on D Street near the 3rd and D streets stage.

Throughout the day on Saturday, “several games and competitions for fun prizes will be held” at the corner of 6th and D streets, with the peach pie eating contest happening at noon, organizers said.

Another new addition this year will be the Peach Promenade, a “vibrant block” that will be between 3rd and 4th on D Street. Sponsored by Sutter Health, organizers said it will be designed to “foster connections and provide a refreshing escape from the summer heat.”

The Peach Promenade will offer “ample seating, umbrella-shaded areas, and strolling entertainers to delight visitors. As night falls, the street will come alive with the warm glow of string lights, creating a magical evening ambiance. A cooling station will be made available to festival goers at this location, featuring a large tent with four mister fans,” organizers said.

Other happenings at the festival include the Peach Festival Bed Races where “private citizens, civic clubs, families and student groups are encouraged to build a bed to race,” organizers said. The event will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday on D Street between 7th and 8th streets. Winners will receive cash prizes for the fastest bed and the best peachy theme.

For kids, a children’s entertainment area will be located in the park on the east side of 3rd and D streets. Organizers said this year’s children’s activity and entertainment area is made possible through a partnership between the city of Marysville and First 5 Yuba.

“There will be something fun for the whole family at the 2024 Marysville Peach Festival,” organizers said.

Traffic and detours

Organizers said there will be related street closures in the downtown area at 9 p.m. on Thursday in order to prepare for the event. Because of detours in place as a result of the Hotel Marysville fire, the following routes are recommended for visitors to the festival:

– From northbound Highway 70: turn right onto 3rdStreet. Free streetside parking will be available on 3rd, 2nd, 1st, D and C streets. Paid parking is available at the Habitat for Humanity parking lot at 3rd and D streets.

– From southbound Highway 70: continue southbound onto B Street and turn right on 8th Street. Free streetside parking will be available on B, C, D and 8th streets.

– From eastbound Highway 20: turn left on 9th Street and right onto D Street. Free streetside parking will be available between 8th and 9th streets on D Street, along 8th Street and C Street.

– From Highway 99: turn eastbound onto Bridge Street. Continue eastbound over the 5th Street Bridge. Take the 3rdStreet exit (right lane) and then turn right on F Street. Head southeast underneath Highway 70 (E Street Bridge) to 1st Street. Free streetside parking is available on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, C and D streets. Paid parking is available at the Habitat for Humanity parking lot at 3rd and D streets.

Because of street closures and detours, Yuba-Sutter Transit’s local fixed-route service will not serve multiple downtown stops on both festival days – Friday and Saturday. Officials said Route 1 and Route 4 will not serve D and 2nd Street, F and 2nd Street and all bus stops in both directions between B and 3rd Street and B and 9th Street.

On both festival days, the nearest alternative downtown stops for Route 1 and Route 4 will be on 3rd Street at or near Adventist Health/Rideout Hospital in Marysville, officials said.
