'Peloton husband' gifts girlfriend a Peloton: 'Here's hoping this goes over better the second time'
Sean Hunter, aka "Peloton Husband," gave his real-life girlfriend... a Peloton bike for Christmas. Hunter, who starred in the viral advertisement, poked fun at the controversy on Instagram on Thursday.
"Here’s hoping this goes over better the second time," he wrote, adding, "(Pls don't leave me.)”
Overall, people have been pretty supportive on social media.
"Love this! I would be thrilled if my husband bought me this!" one woman wrote.
"I bought one for myself but wouldn’t have had a problem if my spouse had bought it for me!! Merry Christmas!!!" another woman commented.
Someone else added, "Too bad I’m not the wife or girlfriend; I would have loved this as a Christmas gift... or Hanukkah, Birthday, Anniversary, Late Push Present, Just because... who cares. It’s a great gift!"
The actor only has one line in the 30 second spot, but it was enough to set the internet ablaze. Peloton's holiday ad was slammed as sexist because "Peloton husband" gifts his very skinny wife the at-home bike. Hunter opened up about the backlash on Good Morning America earlier this month.
"People turned down a pretty dark path and it turned into a nasty thing," he said. "Once something goes viral, and it turns viral, people jump on that negative bandwagon and start to create any dialogue they want."
He continued, "My image is being associated with sexism, with the patriarchy, with abuse, with these words that I am seeing people write about me — that’s not who I am."
"Peloton wife," actress Monica Ruiz, has had a better experience in the aftermath of the commercial. She starred in a funny follow-up ad for Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin and landed a guest spot on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
