Pennylynn Webb: COLUMN: I'm an Air Force Mom

Jun. 24—Last week I saw a T-shirt on Pinterest that read, "I am a letter-writing, everyday-praying, sometimes-crying, very patriotic, constantly-loving, always proud, hero-raising Air Force Mom."

I totally identified with that.

My oldest son, Wyatt, 24, graduated from Air Force Boot Camp May 23.

To say it was easy for either of us would be a lie.

It was the first time I ever went without talking to Wyatt for days at a time. Even when he was in college I either spoke to him by call or text every couple of days.

Throughout his basic training I had little to no access to him.

So, I wrote.

I worried.

I prayed.

I waited for his calls.

I was there when he needed me.

He learned.

He grew confident.

He became an airman for the U.S. Air Force.

With the global political climate more unpredictable than ever, our military could be called to respond to any number of situations across the globe, at any time.

We both have to be ready for that call.

My son is ready.

I'm not ready.

I don't know if I'll ever be ready for that.

Should the need arise, I will stand in the gap with prayer, love and support.

I will lift him up.

I will wave flags and sing praise and he will know how proud I am of him.

I will write.

I will worry.

I will pray.

I will wait for his call.

I will be there when he needs me, like he will be for our country.

I am an Air Force Mom.
