People Are Convinced That Carrie Underwood Is on 'The Masked Singer'
Fox's outrageous new reality show The Masked Singer had everyone scratching their heads when it premiered this week-and not just because of its strange concept of costumed celebrities competing through song.
People all over the Internet are going crazy guessing who's behind the remaining Deer, Monster, Unicorn, Peacock, and Lion masks.
While some are predicting the beautiful voice of the Lion belongs to Rumer Willis, a Kardashian sister, or Paris Jackson, others are adamant that it's none other than country star Carrie Underwood.
"My money is on Carrie Underwood," a Reddit user wrote. "I knew it was her just by articulation alone," added another.
"It has to be her," said a third. "There is no one else. I can totally see her doing Pop to try and disguise her voice."
Twitter user Un Poco Loco laid out an incredibly thorough theory as to why he believes the country singer is behind the Lion.
At first, he thought it might be Lady Gaga, but when looking into the gorgeous gold ensemble, he discovered that the costume designer, Marina Toybina, has outfitted Carrie multiple times, including in a gold dress that's strikingly similar to the Lion's look.
Sure, it could be a coincidence, he reasoned. After all, Toybina's portfolio also includes work for Fifth Harmony, Vanessa Hudgens, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, P!nk, and Shania Twain, among others.
And there's Carrie's pregnancy to consider. She would already have been expecting her second child, a boy, when the show filmed back in June, he said.
"Why would they show #LionMask smoking and drinking?!" he questioned. "And then I remembered the staff member whispering to #LionMask in the YouTube week one hint… #LionMask was being notified that she was pregnant!"
The subsequent Instagram post showing the Lion taking a coffee break is a "subtle hint referring to Carrie Underwood's 'controversial song' 'Smoke Break,'" he continued.
Un Poco Loco points to a close-up Instagram photo captioned "This Lioness is hungry" as a reference to Carrie's pregnancy cravings and theorizes that the gold cloth draped over the Lion's stomach is there to cover her baby bump.
Finally, the fan supposes that the fierce feline was chosen due to its symbolism for bravery and courage-a nod to Carrie's recent struggles, including the fall that injured her face and her tragic miscarriages.
What about those "clues" including "I'm Hollywood royalty" and "I stepped away from my pride which has lots of women"?
"A pride can also metaphorically mean Carrie's country genre," he explained. "Remember how much of a big deal it was when Taylor went pop. Carrie has been talking about wanting to do something other than country in an album recently."
We're not totally convinced (we have a hard time believing Carrie would mask her magnificent voice-or ever refer to herself as "Hollywood royalty"), but it's certainly an interesting idea. Time will tell!
