This pop star is breaking free from her manufactured image with a sexy (and empowering) Playbοy spread
Lauren Jauregui is breaking “free,” according to Playbοy — and her fans are ready for it.
In a stripped-down feature for the magazine, Fifth Harmony singer opened up about her “calculated image” as a member of the girl group and how she’s looking forward to shifting her public persona now that they’ve announced their indefinite hiatus. Along the way, she’s posing for a few steamy photos and opening up about the causes that she wants to use her platform for.
While Camila Cabello seemed to steal the spotlight when she left the X-Factor formed group to go solo back in December 2016, Jauregui has been thriving in her own right and becoming a role model for many. Although she was only 16 when she first stepped into the spotlight, the now 21-year-old is finding out more about herself and her place in the industry as a bisexual Cuban-American woman.
“Right now, I’m just exploring myself and getting in touch with myself creatively,” she told the magazine. “To be real, I don’t want to give myself boundaries.” And while she finds out more about the style of music that she wants to dive into, the one thing she knows for sure are her political beliefs.
The singer penned an open letter for Billboard just before the 2016 election, where she provided an authentic look into her social and political views, her identity, and even slammed Donald Trump. Through being herself and producing music that aligns with who she is, Jauregui believes that she could lead by example in creating art that will eventually influence societal change.
“It’s so crazy how little people know about what they can do, about their rights, what they’re putting into their bodies and everything that’s going on globally,” she said. “I believe that art is the core of what starts revolutions.”
And if this first look at her as a solo artist is any indication, Jauregui’s followers are psyched about what’s to come.
Playboy just wrote a genuinely interesting article about (my one true love) Lauren Jauregui ft. beautiful pictures of her where she was shot, styled and had her makeup done by women. Sexuality =/= objectification/male gaze. https://t.co/10XaP4SXYa

The only thing hotter than @LaurenJauregui's Playboy spread are the accompanying words in the article. https://t.co/PNKM7cqsNr
