People of the internet offer up their lungs after Ruth Bader Ginsburg undergoes surgery
It’s been a rough end to 2018 for Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
On Friday, it was announced that the 85-year-old Supreme Court justice underwent surgery to remove two malignant cancer nodules in one of her lungs at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Two nodules were discovered during routine testing following Ginsburg’s fall on Nov. 7, which resulted in three fractured ribs and panicked reactions from RBG fans around the world. “Both nodules were found to be malignant on initial pathology evaluation,” read a statement issued by the Office of Public Information of the Supreme Court of the United States. “Post-surgery there was no evidence of any remaining disease. Scans performed before surgery indicated no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body.”
With no further treatment planned, Ginsburg will remain in the New York City hospital to recover.
Ginsburg underwent surgery for colorectal cancer in 1999, and she was treated for early stages of pancreatic cancer in 2009.
Ginsburg was in New York City earlier in the week for the premiere of the film On the Basis of Sex, a biopic focused on Ginsburg’s life as a law student juggling family and fighting for equal rights for women.
During a brief interview following the screening, Ginsburg said she has been getting “better each week” following her recent rib fractures and, according to Vogue, is even back to her full workout schedule. As for work? “I will do this job as long as I can do it full steam.”
Fans of Notorious RBG hope that her recovery will be full-steam ahead.

"no further treatment is required". #NotoriousRBG gonna be fine. I'd like her health care plan! She avoided full blown lung cancer because they saw little spots on her lungs when she broke a rib. Freaking amazing.
