Perry Village holding second annual Sunday Summer Fun Day

Jul. 10—Perry Village's annual Sunday Summer Fun Day is returning to Lee Lydic Park on July 14.

The free event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the park, which is located at 3954 Call Road.

Perry Village Council and the Lee Lydic Park Committee are sponsoring this seasonal celebration.

Sunday Summer Fun Day will give visitors the chance to participate in a variety of water activities. Some of the attractions include a 26-foot-long slip-and-slide and a modest-sized splash pad.

Kiddie pools, stocked with various water toys, also will be set up for the event's youngest participants.

In addition, visitors will be able to make bubbles, and play with favorite summertime toys that include Frisbees and Hula Hoops.

Children will get a chance to ride the Perry Area Joint Recreation District's barrel train, which was constructed last year and made its debut at the 2023 Perry Fall Festival.

The train consists of five large, heavy-duty plastic barrels that were turned on their sides, cut open to accommodate seats with seat belts and mounted on two-wheel metal dollies. All of the train cars were painted, and outfitted with hitches and connectors to string them together.

A utility vehicle is used to pull the train when it transports children.

People who get thirsty or hungry during Sunday Summer Fun Day can enjoy free popcorn, Popsicles and lemonade.

Special programs also will be held at specific times during the event:

—1 p.m. — Remote-control airplane demonstration.

—2 p.m. — A ukulele concert is scheduled, and a sidewalk chalk-drawing contest, offering prizes, will be held.

Everyone wishing to enter the contest must sign up at the park before 2 p.m.

—3 p.m. — Limbo contest, with prizes, for children and adults.

Sunday Summer Fun Day was one of three new events organized and carried out in 2023 by the Lee Lydic Park Committee.

The committee also spearheaded efforts to launch Earth Day Family Fun Day and Fall Family Fun Day.

Earth Day Family Fun Day also returned in 2024, when it was held at the park on April 21.

The park committee consists of council members and village residents who are not involved with the community's government as legislators or administrators. One of the group's goals has been to create community-wide events that will bring more people into Lee Lydic Park on a year-round basis.

Anyone from the community who's interested in volunteering at the June 14 Sunday Summer Fun Day should call Perry Village Hall at 440-259-2671.
