Your pantry shelves are stocked and your freezer has never been more full. However, between picking up paper towels, entertaining kids and disinfecting everything, make sure you don’t forget about the one blissfully unaware family member: Your pet.
If you can’t venture out to grab food for Fido and Fluffy, you can still order it online to be delivered straight to your door. Be sure to think ahead, though — while most retailers aren’t experiencing a shortage of pet food, shipping and delivery might still be delayed.
Whether your pets prefer kibble, wet food or something freeze-dried, keep at least two weeks’ worth of food on hand, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Don’t forget essentials like cat litter and cleaning supplies, too.
The ASPCA also suggests creating a pet emergency kit, which includes at least 30 days’ worth of any medication. In the event that you become unable to care for your fur baby in the short- or long-term, make sure a designated caregiver is available to take over.
