Peter Kay has announced a charity screening of new Peter Kay Car Share episodes will take place in 10 days' time.

A post on the comedian's official Twitter account said that four episodes of the BBC One sitcom, including two new episodes, will be shown at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday April 7.

It's the first public announcement from Kay since he released a statement in December saying he would be stepping out of the limelight "due to unforeseen family circumstances", explaining that he was cancelling all of his forthcoming work commitments including his stand-up tour and Dance for Life shows.

The screenings will raise money for the Lily Foundation, which aims to improve the lives of children with mitochondrial disease, an incurable condition that can be difficult to diagnose as it has a range of symptoms including seizures, learning disabilities and muscle weakness.

A quote from Kay on the ticketing statement said: “I’ve had first-hand experience of the Foundation’s work and I’m proud to raise both awareness and much needed funds to help with the inspiring work they provide to children and their families.”

It is not yet clear if Kay will attend the screenings himself.

Tickets for the screening will go on sale at 9am on Saturday March 31 through Ticketmaster.co.uk.
