When the Netflix holiday movie The Christmas Chronicles dropped last year, people couldn’t get enough of Kurt Russell as a rugged and affable Santa Claus.

The plot follows two kids celebrating their first Christmas without their late father. They accidentally wind up on Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve, and the trio get stranded in Chicago. Most of the story takes place in the Windy City, but was the movie actually filmed there?

It turns out that the cast and crew headed to an even colder destination to film the holiday flick—Toronto.

In early 2018, residents of the city took to Twitter to report sightings of Kurt dressed in a long red jacket and sporting a fluffy white beard, according to Toronto’s blogTO.

Not only was Kurt seen around town dressed up as St. Nick, but he was also spotted riding on the roof of a sports car.

Several parts of Toronto were used in filming, such as the residential neighborhood Leslieville, The Windsor Arms hotel, and a pub called St. James’s Gate.

Netflix has announced that a sequel of The Christmas Chronicles is on its way and is expected to release in time for the 2020 holiday season. Fans were excited to hear that Goldie Hawn, Kurt’s real-life partner who had a cameo as Mrs. Claus in the first movie, will come back as a lead.

And it turns out the frigid cold of Canada wasn’t too much for the cast and crew—it looks like the sequel is filming in Vancouver.
