Photo Proves Meghan Markle Would Be a Great Mom
Meghan Markle may not be a mom just yet, but she's already practicing a royal family-approved parenting trick. While meeting school children in the crowd in Birmingham this morning, Markle got down on their level, even in stiletto heels. It's an active listening technique that her soon-to-be in-laws, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have mastered.
People reports that the simple gesture can "foster self-esteem in powerful ways."
The magazine cites child development expert Gill Connel's book A Moving Child Is a Learning Child, which reads, "Active listening is one of the most important ways you can send the message, 'You’re important to me.' Get down on the child’s level, lean in and make eye contact."
Prince William and Duchess Kate frequently crouch down to speak with their own children; Prince William was even scolded by the Queen for getting down on Prince George's level during the 2016 Trooping the Colour.
While Markle and Prince Harry obviously don't have children yet, during their first sit-down interview with the BBC following the announcement of their engagement, Harry seemed to imply that they were keen to start a family ... after the wedding, of course.
When the interviewer asked, "Children?" Harry joked, "Not currently no," and then added, "one step at a time and hopefully we'll start a family in the near future."
