Before And After Photos Put Alta's Record-Breaking Snow Year In Perspective

The photos below stopped me dead in my tracks this morning as I was scrolling through my various social media feeds. You'll see why.

Alta Ski Area, Utah recorded 903 inches (75 feet) of snow throughout the season. It was the most snow they've received in a single season by a wide margin.

According to Reddit user backcountryduff, the photos below show his wife standing on snow piled high above the trail sign for Alta's 'Cecret Saddle' Trail in April of 2023, and then standing at the same spot in August of 2023. The difference is remarkable.

Yeah. That's A LOT of snow.

Thanks to the record-breaking snowfall, Alta was able to stack up near record-breaking totals for snow base depth. The ski area hit the normally-elusive 200 inch (16.7 feet) mark back in March for the first time since the historic 2010-2011 season.

It's hard to fathom more than 16 feet of snow on the ground without pictures like the ones shared above by backcountryduff.

Other parts of Alta surely had varying amount of snow piled up due to sun exposure, winds, and other factors, but these images tell you everything you need to know.

It snowed A LOT last season at Alta, and that snow has somehow all melted. Mother Nature has a sick sense of humor, but fear not friends, next season is rapidly approaching.
