How to pick the perfect Thanksgiving turkey
It is that time of year. The grocery stores are going to bustling and turkeys are ready for the picking.
But how do you pick the perfect turkey?
Turkey Age
The age of the turkey matters.
Turkeys at the grocery store will provide the age on the turkey or say 'Young Turkey.'
Turkeys younger than seven months are more tender and flavorful. So, when you see the older turkey that's cheaper keep in mind that turkey might be tougher.
Turkeys older than 15 months old are not recommended.
Size
When buying your Thanksgiving turkey, it is important to pay close attention to size because it has to be big enough to feed all your guests.
It is recommended to allow one pound per person.
Fresh vs. Frozen
Frozen turkeys have many benefits.
For example, fresh turkeys must be cooked within a couple of days after purchase.
With frozen turkeys, you do not have to worry, because they are flash-frozen right after butchered.
