Pierce Brosnan Pleads Guilty to National Park Violation
Pierce Brosnan arrives at the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix's The Out-Laws.
Pierce Brosnan had himself an outlaw moment.
On Thursday, March 14, the 70-year-old actor entered a guilty plea for one of two violations he received during a visit to Wyoming's Yellowstone National Park in the fall of last year.
According to court docs obtained by USA Today, Brosnan appeared virtually in court as he pleaded guilty to walking off the designated path in one of Yellowstone National Park's thermal areas in November 2023, according to official documents filed in Wyoming's U.S. District Court.
Brosnan was issued the violation and a second notice for allegedly violating a closure at Mammoth Hot Springs on Nov. 1, 2023. In January, the Irish actor entered a not-guilty plea to both violations, per the court documents.
The Mamma Mia! star was fined $500 for straying off the trail. A judge also ordered him to make a $1,000 donation to the nonprofit organization Yellowstone Forever. The court dismissed his second violation.
Brosnan later took to his Instagram page to issue the following statement about the transgression, which he said he "deeply regrets."
"As an environmentalist I have the utmost respect for and love of our natural world. However, I made an impulsive mistake - one that I do not take lightly - when entering a thermal area covered in snow in Yellowstone National Park to take a photograph. I did not see a 'No Trespassing' sign posted that warned of danger nor did I hike in the immediate area.
"I deeply regret my transgression and offer my heartfelt apologies to all for trespassing in this sensitive area. Yellowstone and all our National Parks are to be cared for and preserved for all to enjoy. #StayOnThePath," he concluded.
