Pink and Brandi Carlile Join Forces for Moving Rendition of Sinéad O'Connor's 'Nothing Compares 2 U'
Pink and Brandi Carlile paid tribute to Sinéad O'Connor with an emotional cover of the late Irish singer's hit "Nothing Compares 2 U."
Hours after the heartbreaking news broke of O'Connor's passing, Pink honored the musician at her Cincinnati concert. Before launching into the cover, the singer shared with the audience an anecdote about how much the song means to her, per Billboard.
"When I was a little girl, my mom grew up in Atlantic City and I used to go down to the Ocean City Boardwalk with my ten dollars and I would make a demo tape…I would make a little cassette tape and imagine it was my demo for the record company. And it would always be either 'Greatest Love of All' by Whitney Houston or 'Nothing Compares 2 U' by Sinéad O'Connor," said Pink.
She then announced, "So in honor of Sinéad, and in honor of my very, very talented friend Brandi Carlile, I asked her if she could come out here and sing this song with me."
Carlile was seen tearing up onstage while belting out the song, showing how much O'Connor's death affected her.
This isn't the only time Pink has sung the iconic Prince-penned ballad this year. The 43-year-old included it in her BBC Radio 2 performance, accompanied by the BBC Orchestra.
O'Connor's death was confirmed by her family on Wednesday, July 26, with a statement issued to The Irish Times, which reads, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."
