Pizza Hut Employee Was Fired Over a Dirty Joke
"The customer is always right" is a phrase that retail workers have become far too familiar with since the phrase was first coined in the early 1900s. But, to people using the #JusticeForPizzaGirl hashtag on Twitter, that logic doesn't apply here. Folks on the social media site are voicing their outrage following the termination of a Pizza Hut employee who wrote a dirty joke on a customer's pizza box.
The unnamed employee was let go from a Pizza Hut in Stafford, Virginia after a customer discovered the inappropriate joke that was written on the box, per her teenage sons' request.
According to Virginia's WJLA, the mother's teenage sons ordered the pizza online and asked for a joke to be delivered with it. On the inside of the box, they found:
"What do a pizza delivery driver and a gynocologist [sic] have in common. They both have to smell it, but neither of them get to eat it."
Upon discovering the joke, the parent - whose name WJLA is now keeping anonymous - complained to management, and then posted a photo of the box to social media.
"I was really shocked and floored that Pizza Hut would send that type of joke out," the mother told WJLA. "The employee even called, and I told her that I hope she doesn't lose her job over this."
But, sadly, she did.
Now, Twitter has come out swinging in defense of "Pizza Girl."
It's not clear if Pizza Hut has any plans to rehire the employee, but let Pizza Girl's story be a lesson that there's a time and a place for dirty jokes - and that's everywhere! JK, it's probably not on a pizza box, but come on! Let Pizza Girl come back, Pizza Hut! I'm sure she's learned her lesson, and next time, her joke will probably be G-rated. Probably.
