Pizza restaurant apologizes to customers whose receipt read 'Trash, White'
A pizza restaurant apologized to customers a server called white trash and reportedly refunded the cost of their meal.
Jet’s Pizza in Hamtramck, Mich., made amends with customer Jason Charboneau and his co-workers who visited the restaurant Monday and received a bill with the words “Trash, White.”
Charboneau of Harper Woods, Mich., posted a photo of the bill on Facebook. “So, the staff at work orders Jets in Hamtramck for a bite while at work. The gal that took the order had an interesting name for us……..for real? Yea, corporate will hear about this.” He uploaded a photo of the receipt for $65.39, which included the phrase at the top.
Replying to another Facebook user who posted a photo of the receipt, Jet’s Pizza wrote, “Regarding the incident from last night, as soon as we found out about this situation, we contacted the customer to let her know that the behavior she experienced is unacceptable and a clear violation of our service standards. We apologized and assured her that we, as a company, do not tolerate this type of behavior in our stores. We have since made suggestions to managers of this franchise location on how to deal with the employee who caused this regrettable situation.”
According to Detroit news outlet WXYZ, the restaurant will refund Charboneau and his party for their order and provide a store credit.
Charboneau did not respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment. He told Detroit station ABC13 that he will never return to the restaurant, saying, “I don’t need to know what people think of me.” When asked what he would say to the note writer, Charboneau answered, “Grow up and lose the hate.”
On Wednesday, Charboneau wrote on Facebook, “So during this holiday season, spread love, not hate. Don’t pre-judge. Let others be themselves so they don’t misdirect hatred on others…”
A Jet’s Pizza spokesperson did not return Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment.
