Plant lovers visit Cactus and Succulent Society of New Mexico exhibit
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – This weekend, plant enthusiasts can treat themselves to an event held by a local group.
The Cactus and Succulent Society of New Mexico held an exhibit of prize-winning plants along with demonstrations about growing and caring for the greenery.
Experts said the cold-hardy plants aren’t just cool to look at, but they’re perfect for New Mexico landscapes and often cheaper.
How do some New Mexico schools handle cell phones in the classroom?
“I think a lot of people are interested in the outdoors and the environment, and so a lot of these plants are plants that grow here in NM, and the other thing is that a lot of these plants make really good yard plants. You don’t need to use as much water as you’d use for bluegrass and geraniums and things like that,” said Ralph Peters with the Cactus and Succulent Society of New Mexico.
He said there are thousands of cacti species around the world, but even more succulent species because they come from a variety of families, including the grape family.
