Playa Bowls, a superfruit bowl shop specializing in bowls such as acai and pitaya, oatmeal, chia, smoothies, juices, cold brew and more, is opening a new location 11 a.m. Saturday at 251 Mundy St., Wilkes-Barre Twp.

The new shop is offering free bowls and limited-edition T-shirts to the first 75 guests in line with additional swag and giveaways to guests throughout the day.

The Wilkes-Barre Twp. shop is co-owned and operated by husband and wife duo Bronwyn and Mike Bergen, and son, Michael Bergen. This latest opening marks the fifth Playa Bowls shop for the couple who opened their first location in Newtown in 2020 and most recently opened a shop in Bensalem in March.

Guests can pick from a menu of bowls or customize their own. They can choose from a variety of proprietary blends made with superfoods, including pure acai, pitaya, chia pudding, coconut, kale, banana, oatmeal and mango. Guests can also add nutritious toppings, such as fresh-cut fruits, seeds, nuts, granola, dried berries and nut butters.

The superfruit bowl shop also offers a selection of juices, smoothies, cold brew and other drinks. Playa Bowls can be made vegan or gluten-free, and it can be adapted to integrate into Whole30, keto and paleo diets.

The Wilkes-Barre Twp. location will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.

Playa Bowls was founded by surfers Abby Taylor and Rob Giuliani in 2014 and has more than 200 stores in 22 states.
