The plus-size fashion movement isn’t just about women — even though they might be the most vocal.
According to Sara Westbrook, Head of Plus Merchandising at Old Navy, who spoke on Saturday at the theCURVYcon, a conference connecting plus-size influencers, celebrities, and brands, men “face the same challenges as plus-size women.”
On the event’s “Dear Retailer” panel, Westbrook — along with her peers from Lane Bryant and JCPenney — noted that men who buy big-and-tall sizes just “want to look nice; they want to look put together.”
Additionally, considering they rarely see themselves reflected in marketing and advertising campaigns, plus-size males may feel a sense of disenfranchisement that’s similar to the way many females feel. “That’s a really important part of our men’s business at Old Navy,” Westbrook says, “and we have a really broad size range as well as lengths, so he can definitely find himself within our collection.”
