Podcast Hosts Apologize for Laughing When T.I. Said He Checks His Daughter’s Hymen

From Cosmopolitan

  • Ladies Like Us podcast hosts Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham apologized for laughing along with T.I. when he said he takes his daughter to the gynecologist to get her hymen checked.

  • He said he wants to make sure she’s a virgin but then went on to shame virgins.

  • The rapper hasn’t apologized.

Brace yourselves, because there’s another update in the ongoing drama about T.I.’s ignorant and inaccurate statement about hymens being associated with virginity. To refresh your memory: Yesterday, T.I. said he takes his 18-year-old daughter to the gynecologist every year to make sure her “hymen is still intact,” which he takes to mean that she’s still a virgin. (Note: Some people don’t even have hymens and they can “break” from activities that don’t include sex. Like, riding a bike can “break” someone’s hymen!)

Anyway, T.I. is rightfully catching a lot of heat for those comments. Usually when that happens to a celebrity, they realize they were wrong and apologize via the Notes app. Unfortunately, T.I. is not such a celeb and hasn’t walked back that embarrassing interview yet. That said, the hosts of the podcast just spoke out about the interview and took full accountability for laughing in the moment.

This morning, the Ladies Like Us hosts, Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham, took to Instagram to address everyone who has criticized their passive reaction to T.I.’s inappropriate behavior. First off, they called it a “knee-jerk reaction” that completely caught them off guard. They admitted, “Looking back, we should have reacted much differently in the moment.”

In the joint statement, they also said:

“The comments that were made and the reaction that followed are not in any way a reflection of our personal views on the topic. We support and love Women and feel that their bodies are theirs to do as they wish. There was absolutely no ill intent toward any party involved & feel deeply awful about the entire incident.”

To wrap it up, they said that they know this apology doesn’t make all this go away and that they want to continue the discussion.

Again, T.I. hasn’t apologized for anything yet, even though he’s the one who said the comments to begin with. Also, his daughter hasn’t commented on how he put her private life out there for everyone to hear.
