Politicians from across the country and around the world expressed their sorrow at the news of Barbara Bush's passing today on Tuesday, April 17, at the age of 92.

First Families the Carters, Clintons, Obamas, and Trumps all remembered the former First Lady fondly, especially her grit, grace, and warmth. The mother of six had spent eight years in the White House, plus two terms as the country's Second Lady when husband George H.W. Bush served as Vice President in the Reagan administration.

Barbara Bush was also the second First Lady who was also a mother of a president, along with Abigail Adams. Her dedication to the cause of universal literacy and devotion to her family won her respect and admiration from political leaders and citizens alike.
