At the start of the NFL 2024 playoffs to decide who will compete in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11, the popular fast food chain Popeyes proposed an interesting bet to win free wings.
The restaurant told fans that they would get free wings on Tuesday, Feb. 13 if a "winged" football team—meaning the Philadelphia Eagles or the Baltimore Ravens—or the Buffalo Bills, due to the town's connection to chicken wings, won the Super Bowl.
Well, the Eagles were knocked out of the playoffs on Jan. 15, when the team lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the Buffalo Bills lost on Jan. 21 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, the Baltimore Ravens are Popeyes fans' last chance to get their hands on celebratory free wings. The football team is set to play the Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC Championship on Sunday, Jan. 28, which will decide which team heads to the Super Bowl to play the NFC Championship team.
“The best combo in the world is football, wings, and a little wager,” said the chief marketing officer for Popeyes, Jeff Klein, in a statement. "We are making a bet with Popeyes fans in the U.S. and Canada that if a football team with wings wins it all, then we will give everyone Popeyes NEW chicken Wings to celebrate.”
Fans on social media were excited about the possibility of free wings, with comments like, "guess i have a reason to watch football now. go wings!" and "guess i’m rooting for a winged team ??????."
If the Ravens win the Super Bowl, fans will be able to get a free 6-piece wings order at Popeyes with any order in the app or online on Feb. 13. The chain's wings come in five flavors, Ghost Pepper, Sweet ‘N Spicy, Honey BBQ, Roasted Garlic Parmesan, and Signature Hot, and the regular menu price is $5.99.
