Popular Westchester brewery to close; plus 3 eatery closings in Eastchester
The popular, 15-year-old Peekskill Brewery, plus three Eastchester dining establishments, one of which had been in business for 14 years, have closed or are about to close or reinvent. Details follow.
Peekskill Brewery, Peekskill
Peekskill Brewery, known affectionately as "PB," is closing as of Nov. 22. In a statement owners Kara, Keith and Morgan Berardi wrote how the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was too much to overcome, despite their best efforts. "We ask you to understand that we have done everything we could to keep PB operating including incurring debt and restructuring operations (several times to meet customer’s changing preferences and behaviors)," they wrote. "However, Peekskill Brewery’s sales have not returned to pre-pandemic levels and we can no longer afford to operate.
"Fifteen years of owning and operating a small business brings unimaginable challenges. It alsocontributed to our personal and professional growth in ways that we hope to carry with us as wemove forward. We want to express our deepest gratitude to all in our community forallowing us to serve you and hope that when you remember PB a smile comes to your face.
"For all of you that we have laughed with, cried, reminisced, celebrated and grieved, thank you. You changed us and taught us so much."
The three — Keith and Morgan are siblings and Kara is married to Keith — will be hosting a "Kick the Keg" event Nov. 22 from noon to 8 p.m. to say "Cheers in Perpetuity."
The brewpub, in business since 2008 and known as much for its approachable lineup of beers as well as for its dog-friendly beer garden, is located at 47 S. Water St., 914-734-2337, peekskillbrewery.com
Westchester Meat Market, Eastchester
There's good news and bad news here. The meat market, which opened in March and was known for its gourmet sandwiches, burgers, meats and curated grocery items, has closed. Coming in its place, from Peter Bicaj, the same owner (he no longer has business partners), will be a 45-seat steakhouse. Bicaj, who has more than 20 years restaurant experience, expects to open in January 2024 and promises his same burgers will be on the bar menu. Many in the area may know him from his time at the now-closed Sea Flame Steakhouse in Scarsdale. 1 Mill Road
