The Porg Is the Breakout Star of the New ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Trailer

Updated

The newest trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi dropped yesterday, and while there’s plenty of action and elaborate costumes to go around, we can’t get enough of the film’s new so-adorable-we-just-want-to-squeeze-it alien character, the Porg.

Not much is known about the Porg, but we do know the creature is native to the island of Ahch-To, the aquatic planet Rey stumbles upon at the end of The Force Awakens. Sure, the Porg’s debut is brief, but if its rapidly growing fan base is any indication, it won’t be forgotten anytime soon. (Tough luck, Minions.)

Right—so this new trailer. In the clip, the two opposite sides of the force, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley), train with their respective mentors. The 154-second trailer teases everything from Rey’s potential dark side to an overly emotional Kylo, but the internet (and we) can’t get enough of Chewbacca’s new Furby-like copilot, who, we might add, received a mere three seconds of screen time during the chase sequence.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres on December 15, 2017.
