Here's one of the most straightforward (if not the most inexpensive) new options for training with power. Unlike Garmin's Vector and Polar's new Keo power pedals, on these everything is housed within the pedal body, meaning that moving the PowerTap P1 from bike to bike is really as easy as swapping pedals. Setup and calibration—which you need to perform only upon initial installation—are practically dummyproof and take less than five minutes. The system runs off an AAA battery and plays nice with any ANT+ device. PowerTap claims accuracy within 1.5 percent, on par with its G3 power hub, and you get additional data such as the left-right power split and actual (not estimated) cadence.

The pedal isn't perfect: The body is chunkier than its competitors, the system weighs 78 grams more than Garmin's Vector, and you have to ride with P1-specific cleats. Even so, power meters have never been this easy to use.
