Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Responds to Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Canada Transition

1 min read

First, Queen Elizabeth agreed to let Prince Harry and Meghan Markle split their time between the U.K. and Canada. And, now Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is sharing what he really thinks about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s potential move to North America.

The Canadian politician, 48, recently sat down for an interview with BBC’s Global News, where he discussed Prince Harry and Markle’s decision to step down as “senior” members of the royal family.

“There’s still a lot of decisions to be taken by the royal family—by the Sussexes themselves—as to what level of engagement they choose to have,” he said.

Now that the queen is allowing the royal couple to establish a partial life in Canada, Trudeau confirmed that he supports their decision. “We are obviously supportive of their reflections but have responsibilities in that, as well,” he added.

When asked if Canadian taxpayer dollars will go toward the royal couple’s transition, Trudeau admitted that it’s still up in the air. “This is part of the reflection that needs to be had, and there are discussions going on,” he continued. “We’re not entirely sure what the final decisions will be, where the dispositions are—and those are decisions for them. I think most Canadians are very supportive of having royals being here. But how that looks and what kind of costs are involved, there’s still lots of discussion.”

Hey, if there’s a chance we’ll spot Markle in the wild, you won’t see us complaining.
