Prince Charles Says He Still Has Trouble With Taste And Smell Because Of COVID-19
While visiting a hospital to show thanks for healthcare workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, Prince Charles told one of the workers that he is still recovering from his loss of taste and smell that he developed when he had COVID-19.
Charles, who was diagnosed with a mild case in March, spoke about his experience with the disease in an outing to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, according to the Daily Mail.
"He [Prince Charles] did speak of his personal experience, so first-hand experience for him," health care assistant Jeff Wall told the publication: "He also spoke about his loss of smell and taste and, sort of, still felt he's still got it now."
The loss of taste and smell, among other symptoms that range from mild to severe, are listed as possible symptoms of people who have COVID-19, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
During the visit, Charles and Camilla adhered to the U.K. government’s social distancing guidelines of staying two meters (about six-and-a-half feet) apart and not shaking hands with the mask-wearing nurses, cleaners, consultants, and care workers who they spoke with. They spent about 30 minutes meeting around 20 health care workers outside of the hospital, PEOPLE reports.
The public engagement marks the first public outing for any royal family member since lockdown started on March 23. Their outings are slowly beginning to resume with socially distant measures in place.
