Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are being eco-shamed: ‘What part of saving the planet is flying in private jets’
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are speaking out about climate change and encouraging people to help protect the planet. Now, people are calling out their “hypocrisy” and demanding that they lead by example.
In the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s latest effort to bring social awareness to their Instagram followers, the royals posted a collage of photos to turn people’s attention to the environment.
“There is a ticking clock to protect our planet,” the post reads, “for ourselves and for future generations. Let’s save it. Let’s do our part.”
But while the royals are often seen jetting off to numerous destinations and wearing designer clothing, many are asking that they do their part by cutting back on those luxuries.
“Great initiative, but what about all the flying and driving done by the entire royal family? What about the outrageous size of the housing, the cost of the clothing etc. Perhaps it’s time to set an example,” one person commented.
Another wrote, “So what part of saving the planet is flying in private jets and spending a fortune on clothing you only wear once. The hypocrisy reeks.”
Others commented on the nature of the post, saying that Meghan and Harry were using the important topic to gain popularity, instead of expressing true concern.
“I'm genuinely concerned about environmental issues and organizations but not ok with people looking at environmental issues as a buzz word to use for their popularity,” someone said.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to publicly respond to the eco-shaming. However, they have still received some praise for bringing the issue to light.
“Thank you for raising awareness about important issues,” a fan wrote.
