How Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Meet? Here’s the Story in Their Own Words
If you’ve ever wondered how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle met, then you’ll be pleased to hear that once upon a time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confessed exactly how their love story began. Spoiler alert: When you know, you know—at least that’s what Prince Harry and his 38-year-old wife say.
On November 27, 2017, the then newly engaged couple detailed their romance on-camera at Kensington Palace and recalled the first time they met.
The love birds shared that they were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend in July 2016 and met for a drink in London shortly thereafter. (Drinks? We expected more from you, Harry.) They both declined to name exactly who set them up for a date, but Markle did say they should protect her anonymity. (Some have speculated that “her” is Ralph Lauren publicist Violet von Westenholz, but that’s never been confirmed.)
The now 35-year-old prince remembered being taken aback by Markle when he first set eyes on her. “I was beautifully surprised when I walked into a room and there she was sitting there,” the seventh in line to the throne said.
During the couple’s engagement photo session earlier that November day, the prince also revealed he knew they were meant to be from “the first time [they] met.”
Markle was just as taken by Harry. She admitted that they both felt the spark soon into their first date: “Very quickly into that, we said, ‘Well, what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.’”
Now, they have a son (shout-out to Archie) and nearly two years of marriage under their belt. Ah, we love a happy ending.
