Prince Harry has officially chosen his Best Man for his upcoming wedding to Meghan Markle! And, OK, his pick isn’t exactly a surprise: It’s Prince William.
Kensington Palace broke the news on Thursday morning with an adorable series of photos of the brothers.
“The Duke of Cambridge is honored to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St George's Chapel, Windsor on May 19th,” the Palace wrote in a follow up tweet.
Prince William is returning the favor for his younger brother who served as his Best Man at William’s 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton.
A source revealed to E! News that William plans to read something during the ceremony and will also likely deliver a toast at the reception. It’s rumored that Harry’s big brother will read a section of prose or a poem favored by their late mother, Princess Diana.
In January, William addressed his potential role as Harry’s Best Man during a radio interview. “He hasn’t asked me yet, just to clear that up. It could be a sensitive subject,” he joked.
Wills and Harry attribute their close relationship to the shared trauma of losing their mother at a young age (15 and 12, respectively).
“Our relationship is closer than it’s been because of the situation we’ve been through,” William has said.
“Losing our mother at a young age, it’s helped us travel through that difficult patch together. You’re like-minded. You go through similar things—it’s a bond, and it’s something you know you’ve tackled together and come out better for it.”
“That’s the thing about being a best mate, inevitably one of you is sometimes on an up, while the other is on a down. You’re always there for each other and repaying that favor.”
While Best Man may be William’s title in the royal wedding, the term seems to translate to his and Harry’s relationship as well.
