Did you know that the Duke of Sussex, aka Prince Harry, is the president of the organization African Parks? Well, #TheMoreYouKnow! And his passion for parks and conservation isn’t only about preserving our natural world and controlling (dare we say reversing?) climate change for the benefit of Earth’s animals and ecosystems. It’s about that, absolutely — but Harry is also concerned about the world he’ll be leaving behind for his 1-year-old son, Archie.
In the forward for African Parks’ annual report, the Duke penned a heartfelt, emotional letter about how, now that he’s a parent, he has an even greater understanding of — and motivation to address — the urgent need to save our seas, jungles, and more.

“Since becoming a father,” his letter states, “I feel the pressure is even greater to ensure we can give our children the future they deserve, a future that hasn’t been taken from them, and a future full of possibility and opportunity. I want us all to be able to tell our children that yes, we saw this coming, and with the determination and help from an extraordinary group of committed individuals, we did what was needed to restore these essential ecosystems.”

Harry’s letter goes on to reiterate the fact — one that is denied by far too many people in power right now — that we are “living through an extinction crisis.” And he’s not just talking about animals in danger; he also underscores that the onslaught of COVID-19 is a “global pandemic that has shaken us to our core and brought the world to a standstill.”
And we do not want to leave behind a world like this, like 2020, to our kids — any kids, royal or otherwise. Boy, is this one year we really hope will be a lesson and not a new norm, as more world leaders like Harry and Meghan (and our next, new U.S. President, please) acknowledge the glaring reality that we as humans need to do a better job caring for our Earth if we want our children to have somewhere as safe, healthy, and beautiful as this planet to live.
Prince Harry is just one of the many feminist celebrity dads we’re obsessed with right now.
