Harry and Meghan announced the news of their stepping down earlier this month, citing that they want to "carve out a progressive new role within [the royal] institution" and "work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen." The couple are currently residing in Canada with their young son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
The queen expressed her approval of the Sussexes' decision, stating that she understood the intense media scrutiny the couple had endured and wishing them the best for a more peaceful and calm life abroad in Canada.
"It is my whole family's hope that today's agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life," said the queen in her official statement.
