Prince Harry Has to Give Up Three Honorary Military Appointments When He Steps Down
As Prince Harry is stepping down from his position as a senior royal, he will have to give up all official duties.
Prince Harry will also have to step back from all of his official military appointments.
The Duke of Sussex was Captain General of the Royal Marines from 2017 to 2020.
Some of the details of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's exit from the royal family have now been revealed, and major changes are afoot.
While Meghan and Harry will still be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they will no longer use their HRH titles. And as well as stepping back from all official royal duties, Prince Harry is also required to give up all of his military appointments. The duke, of course, had an impressive military career which spanned a decade, and included two tours of Afghanistan.
Harry has served as Commodore-in-Chief of Small Ships and Diving from August 2006. He was made an Honorary Air Commandant by the Royal Air Force Honington in October 2008. More recently, the duke became Captain General of the Royal Marines in December 2017. As part of Meghan and Harry's new deal with the royal family, the Duke of Sussex will relinquish all three of these posts.
A statement from Buckingham Palace made Harry and Meghan's decision official. It explained, "As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for Royal duties."
BAZAAR.com's Royal Editor At Large, Omid Scobie, reported on Twitter, "They will continue to work with their private patronages (but three of Harry’s military patronages to end)." He continued, "Harry no longer Commonwealth Youth Ambassador."
