Prince Louis's godparents have been announced — and Meghan and Harry didn't make the cut
It’s a big day for Prince Louis, who was been keeping a low profile since he arrived on April 23.
July 9 marks the date of the royal baby’s christening, which will take place at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace in a ceremony conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
While a press release from Kensington Palace confirms that the infant’s famous aunts and uncles — specifically, Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Pippa Middleton — will attend the service, not one has been named a godparent.
Instead, Prince William and Kate Middleton have appointed friends and other relatives to look after their third child.
Kate’s cousin Lucy Middleton has been named a godmother; her brother, Adam Middleton, currently serves as one of Princess Charlotte‘s godfathers. Fellow godmother the Lady Laura Meade is the wife of Prince William’s longtime friend — and another Charlotte godfather — James Meade, while the third godmother, Mrs. Robert Carter (aka Hannah Gillingham) went to school with Kate and continues to be close to the duchess. Carter’s sister-in-law, Sophia Carter, is a godmother to Princess Charlotte.
As for the godfathers, Nicholas van Cutsem is a childhood friend of Prince William and brother of William van Cutsem, who is one of Prince George‘s godfathers. His daughter, Florence, also served as one of Meghan’s bridesmaids on May 19.
Next is Guy Pelly, whose mother was friends with the late Princess Diana. He is close with both princes and, having owned several London nightclubs, has a reputation as a “party animal.” Last but not least is Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, a former school pal of Prince William and something of a prankster.
Alas, Meghan, Harry, and Pippa will have to settle for the roles of aunts and uncle.
