Prince William has spoken about his childhood memories with his mother on a handful of occasions over the years to pay tribute to her and honor her legacy. And now the prince has shared a very personal memory as he reflects on his life for upcoming appearance on Apple’s audio walking experience.

“When I was younger, Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school”, the prince said for an episode of Apple’s Time to Walk which was recorded on the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk in spring this year. “And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner's "The Best" because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment. And my mother, she’d be driving along, singing at the top of her voice. And we'd even get the policeman in the car, he'd be occasionally singing along, as well. You'd be singing and listening to the music right the way out into the gates of school, when they dropped you off.”

The prince added that, “When I listen to it now, it takes me back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of my mother.”

William stars in a 30-minute episode of Time to Walk, which will be available on Monday December 6. He shared special memories about both of his parents, joked about how his children squabble over music in the mornings and also shared some poignant reflections on his struggles with what he saw while working as an air ambulance pilot.

Three of his favorite songs were played as part of the episode: Tina Turner’s "The Best", Shakira’s "Waka Waka" which is a favorite of his children's, and AC/DC’s "Thunderstruck", which he said helped him get back to work after the weekend.

He also recalled being taken to homeless shelters as a child with Diana because “She wanted to make sure that I understood that life happens very much outside of palace walls, and this is what's going on. This is the real world here.” The prince recalled how, “We sat there, and we listened. It really brings it to life when you hear somebody sit in front of you and talk very movingly and very openly about the challenges they've been up against.”

Each episode features a guest who walks in a location that is meaningful to them and shares important memories, life experiences, and lessons learned.

William’s episode will also be available free on the radio station Apple Music 1 from Monday December 6.
