Princess Anne’s Son Peter Comments on King Charles' Mindset Amid Cancer Battle

King Charles' nephew shed new light on how the monarch is feeling while undergoing cancer treatment.

Peter Phillips, son of the king's sister Princess Anne and the eldest grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II, spoke to Sky News Australia and offered very detailed insight into his uncle's mindset in an interview released on Sunday, March 24.

"He's in good spirits," Peter told the outlet. "I think, ultimately, he's hugely frustrated. He's frustrated that he can't get on and do everything that he wants to be able to do. But he's very pragmatic. He understands that there's a period of time that he really needs to focus on himself."

"But, at the same time, he is always pushing his staff and everybody and his doctors and nurses, to be able to say, 'Actually, can I do this, can I do that?' I think the overriding message would be that he's obviously very keen to get back to a former normality and he's probably frustrated that recovery is taking a little longer than probably he would want it to," the 46-year-old added.

Before Peter's comments, two other royal family members–his wife, Queen Camilla, and Princess Eugenie–spoke out about the monarch's condition as he continues to undergo treatment for the unspecified type of cancer he was diagnosed with earlier this year.

But neither statement painted such a rich picture.

On Thursday, March 21, Camilla embarked on a two-day visit to Northern Ireland, and while visiting the area, she was asked about the king's treatment.

"He's doing very well," she said at the time. "He was very disappointed he couldn't come."

Someone in the crowd then joked about men "not being the best patients," leading Camilla to quip, "I try to keep him in order."

Later that same day, Eugenie offered her own update, just in much fewer words.

"He's doing well," she shared with reporters at an event benefitting the Elephant Family charity on Thursday, March 21. She added that he would "also be very proud today because the Elephant Family is very close to his heart, too."
